Firmly Planted Goals and Achievements: Good Fruit — FPHRC Events
At Firmly Planted Family, our mission is to encourage and equip families on their homeschool journey. This is accomplished in many ways including workshops, tutoring, mentoring, discipleship, events, and community connection. The Center has been an immeasurable source of encouragement and assistance to the community of SW Washington.
The families blessed by Firmly Planted continue to grow as we have increased in size to over 600 families. With that, we are daily witnessing countless talents and abilities in this thriving community. Each family that serves here is passionate about this ministry and the impact it’s making. Over the past 7 years we’ve been planting seeds and cultivating soil–what a delight it is to witness the bearing of this fruit!
“That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season”… Psalm 1:3a
As our 2024 spring term comes to a close, we’ve hosted many events showcasing the fruit of who we are as a community. Each of these events is not just something we’ve done, but instead a direct result of what we do and who we are.
SCIENCE FEST
Science Fest is an event where we transform our building into a science museum! Through the participation of many individuals, families were able to do science experiments, participate in various dissections, build Legos, play chess, engineer and build a car that could be launched, and participate in a science fair. Due to the abundance of activities, it was nearly impossible for each family to accomplish everything. It was a huge success! We learned about science but more importantly we operated as a community.
PROM
Our highschool prom was a wholesome, fun event filled with appropriate music and dancing. We worked diligently to create a safe, modest, and God-honoring activity for our young people. One aspect that really sets us apart is the use of social dancing or dances that have “called” movements. This provides a way for students to learn how to dance but also how to dance with someone in a way that is respectful and enjoyable. So many students and families were thankful for a fun-filled evening!
CHOIR
"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!"
This May, voices filled the auditorium at Firmly Planted as students came together to share their love of music! Our spring choir concert showcased more than fifty children in three separate choirs, with students ranging in age from kindergarten through high school. The ensembles performed a selection of classical works and hymns, including "It Is Well With My Soul," "Dona Nobis Pacem," and "Jesus Paid It All." Each song was introduced by a student, sharing the history of the music and allowing them the opportunity to confidently address a large gathering.
Our Elementary Choir sang "God Is So Good" in more than half a dozen languages, including Russian, Spanish, French, and Swahili. "Cantate Domino," a Latin classical piece, was sung acapella by our Middle School and Worship Choirs together, highlighting the students' commitment to learning challenging choral arrangements.
Families repeatedly expressed their gratitude to hear their children singing praises to the Lord. It was a beautiful and God-honoring evening of music!
DANCE
The FPHRC dance department went all out in their annual dance show! “Praise His Name With Dancing” (Psalm 149:3) consisted of 4 shows and the participation of over 100 students.
Each group includes a multitude of students ranging from aspiring toddlers to hard working teenagers—all striving to become accomplished dancers. The wide range of dance styles showcased included jazz, tap, hip hop, ballet, lyrical, as well as worship dance.
Watching a 3 year old twirling for the first time on stage brings delight to both the heart and the eyes. Nothing compares to the joy parents and teachers feel when seeing their teens excel in presenting their own choreography after years of dance training. It’s not uncommon to look out at the crowd and behold a sea of people beaming as these dancers pour out their hearts and souls as an offering to the Lord in the expression of dance. This May, these dancers ushered the room into a special time of worship as guests were encouraged to join in singing songs of praise and, if led, to come to know Jesus for themselves.
In conclusion:
When we continue to walk in faith and serve others, we bring glory to God and see the ever abundant fruit of our labor. What will our community accomplish next?
