FPF Goals + Achievements: Fall Events + Projects
GYM FLOOR | NOVEMBER ‘24
We’re so excited to share with you our finished gym floor! So much time, thought, prayer, and resources were poured into this project and we’re so thankful for the Lord’s leading and provision. Upon completion of the install, we held a Gym Dedication service which included worship, prayer, and some fun games! We can’t wait to see what God has in store for our community through the use of this new gym.
SCIENCE FEST | NOVEMBER ‘24
“Attending the FPHRC Science Fest every year has become a family tradition. It was at Science Fest my older son discovered his love for chemistry. We also learned my younger son loves (and isn’t grossed out by!) dissections. Science Fest is an affordable event for kiddos to learn hands on and develop new skills. The vast activities offered keeps all four of my children busy and entertained—there is something for everyone. I have yet to find anything in our area that offers such a fun way to learn about STEM activities. Our family always looks forward to the FPHRC Science Fest.” - Lina S.
CHESS TOURNAMENT | OCTOBER ‘24
“In the Fall of 2022, we started the first chess club at FPHRC. I was not prepared for the popularity and strong parent, teacher, volunteer, and administration support we would receive. The first club had a full roster from the start of the semester.
In the Spring of 2023, we started two chess clubs. Both clubs filled up immediately and had waiting lists. We’ve continued to grow more chess clubs each semester and currently host three at FPHRC, as well as a new club at a Battle Ground school. Our dream is to start chess clubs in every school in Clark County!
Our most recent chess tournament, “The Opening”, happened on October 19th and we hosted over 90 students and their families! Next up is the “Mid-Game” tournament happening on January 11th, 2025. This will be FPHRC’s fourth tournament in our new building.
For decades, Educators have been aware of the connection between playing chess and strong academic performance—especially in Math and Science. Russia has promoted chess for well over 100 years. The same support for chess could help America halt our slide into scholastic laziness and promote strong character qualities.
If you’re interested in playing chess, I’d encourage you to start a chess club in your home or at your church, or consider spending some time playing chess with a senior at a local retirement center. You will be blessed!
Please continue to pray for what God is doing at FPHRC and in Clark County through chess.”
