Current Events in Education: The Answer to Boy Scouts’ Woke Destruction — Cameron + Tracee Linder

Boy Scouts of America recently announced a name change to “Scouting America,” making clear that the organization which made a meaningful and positive impact on generations of boys will never be the same. Trail Life USA, which was established 10 years ago when Boy Scouts’ began its woke transition, now leads the charge in its boy-focused mission.  You can read the official Trail Life response to the BSA’s sad abandonment of the unique needs of boys right here.

Trail Life is not just a Christian label applied to a boys’ outdoors group, but a character development program grounded in biblical definitions and principles which honor manhood in a culture that tears it down. Trail Life aims to shepherd boys into biblical masculinity by facilitating strong bonds with their fathers and other men of faith, while emphasizing Biblical literacy and spiritual growth to develop discerning Bible students and capable citizens.  In short, Trail Life is unashamed of being boy focused and Christ centered.

Today, Trail Life has more than 55,000 members in 1,100 troops, across all 50 states.  To protect its Christian foundation, Trail Life requires troops to charter with an organization that enjoys first amendment protections—most often a church.

Trail Life recognizes that boys are struggling—they are “unguided, unappreciated, ungrounded, and uninspired.”  Even in our churches, we are often losing our children to the culture.  It should be obvious by now that we can’t rely on institutions or programs that are not Christ-centered (be they schools, social activities, or sports) to influence major aspects of our children’s lives and expect them to remain faithful.

Maybe Boy Scouts’ sad destruction teaches us a truth that we should have always known—as our Lord said, “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.” (Matt 12:30)  As we evaluate wholesome alternatives, we need to shift our paradigm to recognize the importance of a Christian foundation in all aspects of our lives. Trail Life provides an answer for families who desire an outdoor focused program which embraces a boy’s unique design and helps them find their masculine identity in Christ along the path to manhood.

As the charter organization for the new Trail Life and American Heritage Girls Troops in Vancouver, Firmly Planted Family is continuing to expand its horizon beyond homeschooling to help families be deeply rooted in the soil of God’s word. Your financial support facilitates the launch of programs like these to strengthen Christian families in our community.
